Since I dont really use my blog on MySpace and I wanted to do a diary on my fantasy football team and since most of the people in the leauge
at least LOOK at the board I decided to do it here. So here is Diary number one, also know as...
Disecting My Draft
As most of you know I had to work during the draft and had to fly home just to make it in time so the end of my draft was weak because I had to leave. The
beginning of my draft though went almost exactly how I planned. So without further adue, here is how my draft went.
| 1. | (3) | Tom Brady | QB |
| 2. | (22) | T.J. Houshmandzadeh | WR |
| 3. | (27) | Reggie Bush | RB |
| 4. | (46) | Jason Witten | TE |
| 5. | (51) | Roy Williams | WR |
| 6. | (70) | Donald Driver | WR |
| 7. | (75) | Julius Jones | RB |
| 8. | (94) | Justin Fargas | RB |
| 9. | (99) | Green Bay | DEF |
| 10. | (118) | Donte' Stallworth | WR |
| 11. | (123) | Jay Cutler | QB |
| 12. | (142) | Reggie Williams | WR |
| 13. | (147) | Phil Dawson | K |
| 14. | (166) | Kevin Jones | RB |
| 15. | (171) | Darrell Jackson | WR |
| 16. | (190) | Ryan Longwell | K |
| 17. | (195) | Amani Toomer | WR |
Round One: First and foremost I would like to point out that drafting Brady, although annoying to me as I hate him, was a brilliant move in
my mind. You see me, being the one to study stats, went in ahead of time and looked at the fantasy points from last year in the foremat for this year and by
far tom brady was the highest scorer. Now I don't expect him to do what he did last year, but under the new scoreing foremat if he puts up 35 and 4000
like he usually does then he will win me a lot of games.
Round Two: TJ WhoseYaMamma was an easy pic for me as he has been the most consistant WR in the last three years IMO. With TO, Moss, Harrison, Steve Smith, and
Holt all being victims to injuries over the last couple year TJ has shot out as quite possibally the best WR in the leauge. In fact, if it wasn't for the
fact that he was on the Bengals where he is outshined verbally by Chad Johnson I probably wouldn't be the only one who thinks so.
Round Three: I'll admit that Reggie Bush wasn't who I wanted here but I think he might have actually been a better pick then who I had hoped. I was
hoping that McGahee or Lynch would fall to round three but they didn't and I ended up with Bush, who, thanks to the fact that this is now a catches league,
is probably more valuable then either of them if he can recover from last years injury.
Round Four: Now here I went with a tight end, and once again IMO the best TE in the draft. Kellen Winslow and Antonio Gates both have injury history and Gonzo
has no QB to speak of and the age is getting up there now. Whitten though has a top 3 QB throwing to him and is an Absolute BEAST. He will be good for about
5 catches a game and probably a TD as he is Romos security blanket.
Round Five & Six: Now here I went back to back with WRs to fill out my slots of WRs and with Roy Williams I may have stretched but the way Aaron Rogers
already seems to throw to Driver when he is in a jam I think he will once again shine like he did in the last few years with Farve. Thanks to last season with
Farve finding a few new targets Driver fell to me at round six but this year I can feel a comeback, and with Roy Williams and TJ I might have a dominant WR
Trio.
Round Seven & Eight: These two were gambles. Both will be splitting time with other backs and Jones got his goal line carries stole from him in Dallas I
its doubtful he'll be rolling with TDs now that he's with the Seahawks who also have TJ Duckett as a third RB who will steal the goal line carries. I
can only hope that Jones returns to his rookie form and Morris crumbles under the pressure of being the starting back. Meanwhile, Fargas has shown early in
the preseason that he is still the number one guy in Oakland, problem is though that not only has McFadden been breathing down his neck so is Micheal Bush.
I'm not to worried about Fargas though because the way things look now they Raiders are going to be the west coast Jaguars and if I'm right Fargas and
McFadden will both be fantasy worthy.
Round Nine: This was my last pick before I put on Autopick and flew back to work and with it I went out and got my Defense just as a conversation was breaking
out about how people were takeing defense to early. I may not have ended up with the top D picking this early, but I did get the team with by far the best DB
combo in the NFL and with the possibility of a struggling offense they will be getting a lot of work and a lot of chances to take the ball.
Rest of the Draft: I cant say I was completly happy with how the draft went after this as I ended up with way to many WRs, only the one Defense, and a back up
RB who may hopefully thrive in Chicago but hasn't played a full season in his career if my memory serves me correct. So I made my first move of the season
in dropping Reggie Williams for the Washington Defense. The reason I chose Reggie as the one to drop is simple. Sure last season he killed in the red zone
but he is on a team that doesn't throw much and he now has to deal with Jerry Porter and Troy Williamson stealing oppertunities from him. Stallworth,
Jackson, and Toomer on the other hand improve from where they were last year (Or in toomers case stay the same). Stallworth went from being the third reciever
or sometimes forth behind the TE on an explosive offense to being the second or sometimes third behind the TE on an explosive offense. Jackson on the other
hand may very well be the number one reciever for Jay Cutler since there number one is in trouble with the law and could be serving suspension. Toomer though,
is an absolute steal with my last pick as he is always consistant and is on the super bowl championship team. Seeing as I mentioned Cutler he faces a weak
Kansas City Defense in the week of Brady's bye week. Works out great IMO. Kickers, who cares but Phill Dawson is one of the best and Longwell has been
consistant so there you go.

) and with Tom Brady at the helm I think you have a scary
good shot at replicating my undefeated record from '07 as much as I never thought I'd utter such words so soon.
